Amazingly Hartley's group played at the original Woodstock Festival inwhich was just one of the interesting facts I learned from this fine book.
Woodstock itself never made a dime, partly because the poor security arrangements turned the potential money-spinner into a free festival. I was completely mesmerised by the guitar work of Spit James who of course renamed himself as Ian Cruikshank. Hartley studied Native American culture and that was reflected in his album artwork and for his wardrobe on his albums, halfbreex well as in this newly published book.

In the mids he had a carpentry business in Haartley, Lancashire, and although it was alleged that he no longer owned a drum kit, attempts were bsnd in the mids to re-form the original line-up of this highly undervalued band which certainly warrants reappraisal in the 21st century.
Hartley, often dressed as an American Indian, sometimes soberly, sometimes in full headdress and war paint, was a popular attraction on the small club scene. Hopefully, like other newly released sets Creedence Clearwater Rev for instance given individual release we may get an affordable release of the complete performance. My only issues with Halfbreed is that it took a while to get going, as a fair amount of pages were scribed about his youth and lesser-known bands. But find it I have and one of the main finds was one of the very few Brit bands that appeared at the time.
Keef Hartley: Having Difficulty Managing
Just my opinion, but I did see the band live in 69 and 70 Loading By the time of the third album both Lowther and Jewell had departed, although Hartley always maintained that his band was like a jazz band, in that musicians could come and go and be free to play with other aggregations.
Miller Anderson is a magnificent singer as well as guitar player. Thanks for pointing that one out.
